Creation vs. Evolution: Does it have to be vs.?

A lot of time is spent arguing which is better, or “true:” Creation or Evolution. But I don’t agree with this at all- after all, who says that it has to be one or the other?

As I understand it, the original Hebrew term that is translated as “Created” in Genesis better translates as “Organized.” Now, I can see a creator doing that. After all... Computer programmers don’t really code the entire program in binary; they essentially make a plan that they want to have the program follow, and have an assembler program complete the system.

Why not jump-start the process?

Some quick questions: What caused the Big Bang? Some would say “I don’t know.” I say “God.” After all; this world is a test of our righteousness, our faith. If he made it incredibly obvious he’d created the world, it sure would ruin the whole faith thing. Same for creating a body out of the air. Why not create a star in a stellar nursery, cause an accretion disc to form, have several planets coalesce, one of which happens to be at the PERFECT distance for liquid water to form. Then have a reducing atmosphere form, slowly and quite naturally. (After all, it’s not a requirement that a reducing atmosphere forms on a planet at this distance...) Lightning storms produce Amino acids. Now, here’s another theology point: Why did amino acids suddenly start reproducing? From whence came that spark? Once again, I blame God. Stick that all-powerful finger in that goo and give it a good stir.

OK; so now life is created. Give it a good kick in the right direction to evolve into RNA based life, form cell walls, jump to DNA, etcetera, etcetera. Move it forward, and get it up to the point we’re almost at. Now, you’ve got these primates. Give some a quick jump-start so that they change from trees to savannas, from gathering to hunting, encouraging an increased mental capacity and brain size. Remember, these are still animals, not people. Still run by instinct, not rational thought or logic. No intelligent spirits, just animal spirits.

Now, once you’re aaaaaalmost there, you change the next generation; or mayhaps just two of them...

Now, you should have given the parents of the new species a bit of the wanderlust, and cause them to end up traveling to a paradise, one where you’ve actively toyed with the local wildlife, flora AND fauna. New generation is born, give ‘em the spirits of your children. Move it forward from there.

So why all the hubbub about Creation vs. Evolution? Simple. Intellectuallism vs. lack of research. The intellectualism is from the Evolutionist side- “Obviously you can’t be even a tiny bit right, because it’s all based on faith, and only idiots have faith! So our theory has some big wide gaping holes! So what? We’re better than you because we’re smarter than you!!” (Also; before telling yourselves that I’m just jealous of those brilliant intellectuals, you may want to know that I’ve an IQ of 148. Just sayin’. [Subnote: I know damn well that IQ really doesn’t have much to do with actual knowledge or intelligence, but rather more to do with logical thought processes. To that I say: the intellectuals seem to give that number a lot of weight, so there it is.] [Yes, I know nesting parenthesis is weird. I got it from math. I like it. Live with it.])

The lack of research is from the Creationist side (specifically, the “Poof! One minute there’s nothing, and then there’s an earth. Seven 24-hour periods!!” creationists) primarily because of the automatic belief that, because some translator centuries ago decided that “Create” was the best translation for “organize,” obviously He created from nothing, poof!

But anyhoo, yeah.

Oh; speaking of the 24-hour periods- the term translated as “Days” in the book of Genesis is actually better translated as “Period of time.” Remember; ancient Hebrew didn’t have terms for things like “Eons” or “Millenia.” (Or heck, I don’t even think it had Century.) Once again, the choices of a couple translators modifies the entire meaning of the text. One stupid word!

By the way; read the Pearl of Great Price. Specifically the book of Abraham. You may not believe it’s actually scripture, but darn it, it expands on Genesis and helps to explain a lot.
