"Small Town" Tucsonans

That previous post reminds me that I need to rant about the moronic residents here who hold some pretty stupid beliefs. Let’s call them STTs for short.

STTs are the folks that are always out with “Stop urban sprawl!” bumper stickers and are constantly trying to stop development- there’s one guy just up the road from us that owns a huge parcel of land around his double-wide (Yes, he has a trailer. In the middle of a major suburban housing area. I know.) Anyway, the city recently widened a road up here (Moore) to turn it from a little two-lane road to a four-lane artery that is intended to relieve pressure from the local Major Artery from the I-10 freeway out to town (Tangerine Road). Sounds good.

Except that when you drive down this road, you find that oops, there’s a section where it constricts back down and makes some rather funky curves, and then it spreads back out. Why? Well, if you look at the land it’s going around and squeezing past, you’ll notice there’s a little trailer at the top of a hill surrounded by a bunch of untouched land. Yup, it’s Mr. Obstructionist.

Seems that he, along with a bunch of other folk here (the STTs,) seem to believe that if they don’t let Tucson (and environs) build up their infrastructure to be able to handle the influx of citizens, then maybe all these new people will go away.

Tucson could SERIOUSLY use another highway; raised and separated from the local roads, running East to West, preferably on the north side. Has it been suggested several times? Yes. (Turn River into a highway, etc.) Can we build this? No. Why? STTs. You know, maybe someday they will realize that a city of this population isn’t a little Podunk frontier town.

Hah. Fat chance. These people are so stuck in their ways, I don’t think there’s anything that could change their minds. Oh, well. At least Tucson will be able to update itself in a couple decades, if it survives the rot that will come with the lack of proper infrastructure to handle all of the new citizenry. After all, they’ll die off eventually. And hopefully their kids will move. One can dream... one can dream.
